It was a saddening moment when the passing of the retired Bishop of Busoga Diocese, Rt Rev Cyprian Bamwoze was announced on Monday Morning after losing a battle to cancer.
The speaker of Uganda Parliament, Rt. Hon Rebecca Kadaga shared her grief in a statement.
“I am saddened by the news of the passing on of Bishop Cyprian Bamwoze
the former Bishop of Busoga Diocese.
On a personal level, i have lost a mentor and a Father.
May your Soul Rest in Peace Bishop.” Said speaker Kadaga.
Bamwoze breathed his last at the Mulago Cancer Institute. His death was confirmed by Bukedi Diocese Bishop Samuel Egesa.
Bishop Bamwoze was the first Bishop of Busoga Diocese being consecrated in 1972 after upon the creation of Busoga Diocese from Namirembe. He however retired in 1998 after years of turbulence among his flock who accused him of maladministration and arrogance. He was succeeded by Dr Michael Kyomya.
An Old Boy of Busoga College Mwiri, students there will remember the Bishop for his Generosity, as he always gifted his former house at the school with a Bull from his farm to roast at the end of every year, as part of his way of giving back.
In 2016, Bishop lost his wife Naomi Bamwoze to diabetes and high blood pressure at Mulago hospital.
