Legendary Diva, Mariah Carey recently revealed that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder but she couldn’t believe it. she was diagnosed in 2001 but refused to believe that she was ill.
She has bipolar 11 disorder, which results in long periods of depression and hypomania.
Bipolar disorder is defined as “a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression).”
The ‘We Belong Together’ singer says she lived in denial and isolation because she couldn’t come to terms with it that she needed to get the medication.
Mariah Carey said, “Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me. “It was too heavy a burden to carry and I simply couldn’t do that anymore. I sought and received treatment, I put positive people around me and I got back to doing what I love — writing songs and making music.”
She took to Instagram to reveal that she’s grateful for having opened up about her battle that she has been suffering in silence.
She made this revelation of battling bipolar disorder during her interview with People magazine.
