Manchester United 2-1 Leicester City: Captain Paul Pogba leads United to Victory

The premier league kicked off with a Friday night game at Old Trafford on the 10th of August 2018 with Manchester United hosting Leicester City. The Manchester United manager after crying out for most of the US tour and the most part of the transfer market hanged Pogba the captaincy on this opening day of the premier league.

And as you would expect, a great performance from the captain, a penalty and goal that he shot in the roof of the net. That is what winning a World Cup does for a player. It fills him up: with confidence, bravery, wit, imagination. Maybe that it what the captain’s armband at Manchester United does, too, except Pogba has had that before and has rarely played with the swagger and certainty of Friday night. If this wasn’t a statement United victory it was because Leicester remain very troublesome opponents, on their day, and few teams will find it easy against them.

Luke Shaw has set his sights on not only becoming Manchester United’s first choice left-back this season, but also one of the best in the world in his position.

The 23-year-old hit the back of the net for the first time in his senior career as United opened their premier league campaign with victory over Leicester on Friday evening.

Shaw’s second-half goal put United in the driving seat at Old Trafford, and the defender has now admitted he wants to make this season as impacting as possible and become a global name.

Slo-mo spot kick

Pogba took an age to score from the spot as he performed one of the slowest run-ups the Premier League has ever seen.

When he finally arrived at the ball, his shot was hammered emphatically into the top corner, but that did not spare him from getting the meme treatment on Twitter.
