Manchester City face an uphill battle to make the semi-final stage in Europe for just the second time in their history, trailing Liverpool 3-0 from last week’s first leg.
They beat Liverpool 5-0 in the league at the Etihad in September, raising hopes that it might be possible.
Fernandinho hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a comeback and states what needs to be done in an interview.
Fernandinho warned Liverpool that City will fight to the end to salvage their Champions League dream.
The Brazilian said: ‘Now is the time for all the experienced players to take over, to be in charge, to be in front of the group.
‘It is a tough week for us, two defeats in a row and six goals conceded, but we have to think just about tomorrow night’s game.
‘The only way to play football is to have a strong mentality. We need goals to go through and that is what we are doing since yesterday, preparing the game against Liverpool and that is the best way to go through.
‘My perfect script would be to go through, that is the most important thing. The fans might want a thrashing but we know it is going to be difficult. The most important thing will be the first action and the first goal and after that see what happens.
‘Liverpool are a team who like to play long balls, fighting for the balls and they try to keep the players around the middle but I think we are going to be ready for it.
